In 1880, Mr. Viktor Riegger, opened not only his own distillery, but also a cooperage. Here, oak barrels for the storage of the distillates were produced by hand. This was done lovingly by hand and is still adhered to by this traditional family business today.

The founder of the rum brand, Viktor Riegger, saw the first light of day in 1887 and followed in his father's footsteps at a young age. He travelled around the world a lot and gained valuable experience. And he soon took over the distillery and cooperage. We owe this El Ron del Artesano to him, whereby the "Rum of the Craftsmen" refers to his ancestors. Meanwhile, this fine El Ron del Artesano rum is produced in Central America by the 5th generation. Every bottling is a tribute to the creativity and Joie de Vivre of the coopers.

Although, on the one hand, the Rieggers' family business honours tradition, Sebastian also dares to experiment on the other. His team was thus inspired by modern Scotch Whisky, which is stored in different or exotic barrel types. Following on from this, many a El Ron del Artesano rum from Panama is matured in a special type of barrel.

Every barrel is a challenge
Editions such as the El Ron del Artesano 7 Years Amarone Cask Finish, Sherry Cask, Port Cask or Recioto Cask benefit from former European wine barrels. But also whisky barrels, bourbon barrels or new oak barrels serve to refine the spirits during storage. The sophisticated finish ensures choice and fascination with El Ron del Artesano Rum. A unique rum, without any additional flavours, and only influenced by the carefully selected barrels in which the rum matures.

When the time is right
Only through tasting is it decided whether this golden asset can be bottled or whether it needs a bit more time maturing in the family's warehouse. It is neither filtered nor artificially coloured. Bottling and labelling is done by hand to honour the traditional craftsmanship.
Every bottling is different, but always strives to provide the best quality. For this reason, you can find such treasures as a 21-year-old Single Cask Rum on the market. But also younger rums are sold from El Ron Artesano all over the world, and many of the rums have earned different awards.
