ALCHEMY & ADVENTURE – Quintessence of Swiss Craftmanship

William Morris was a major architect, designer, poet and co-founder of the “Arts and Crafts Movement” in England mid-19th century. According to his plans were made by John Oakley Maund from 1888 almost identical hunting villas in the Anglo-Scottish “Cottage Style” in the Alps, erected exclusively by regional master craftsmen. In Weggis on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland and in in the Bregenzer Wald, in the Arlberg region, near Lech/Zürs in Austria.

In the “Villa Maund” we came across the work of William Morris. The labels of our Morris Dry Gin are a “homage" to this extraordinary character. The motif is based on an original velvet print by William Morris “The Strawberry Thief", which was produced in his workshops in England in the 19th century. The label is accordingly printed with a special print on velvet paper.

Theresia Angel-Hämmerle's “Product Design” received the IWSC London Award for “Packaging Design”.

John Oakley Maund was an English banker and mountaineer who gained notoriety for several first ascents in the Mont Blanc massif in the 19th century. Sir J.O. Maund, had stately hunting villas built for him by Willam Morris, on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland and in the Bregenzerwald in the Arlberg region, near Lech/Zürs in Austria.

The "Villa Maund" in the Bregenzerwald was leased for many years from the beginning of the 20th century as a hunting lodge for Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia. From 1995 to 2007, Paul Renner, artist, actionist, inhabited the estate.

Among his countless illustrious guests were Zaha Hadid, Ferran Adrià, Günter Brus and the many prominent members of the “infamous” Hell Fire Touring Club, “incognito” of course.

For more than 25 years we have been producing distillates and culinary delicacies based on traditional craftsmanship, but always on the lookout for innovative creations. Since 2016 we have been creating Whisky, Gin, Rum and Vodka for THE WILD ALPS DESTILLERY in the Swiss Rhine Valley, distilling on traditional copper stills according to our own personal taste.

The numerous international awards we have received are confirmation and incentive for our efforts.
